Obituary. Matthew Rathmill 3rd dan. 28/9/70-20/5/23

On the day before the AMA nationals 2023 the world lost a special martial artist. Matt began his karate journey under the tutelage of his father, Richard, as a schoolboy. He went on to amass several titles in kata and kumite and trained under an impressive range of teachers in many styles and held an encyclopaedic knowledge of kata.
As a member of Tower Shukokai in Edgworth, he was a knowledgeable and inspiring mentor and played a valuable part as coach, official and indeed competitor.
Matt was also an accomplished guitarist and songwriter, often entertaining his clubmates on residential training camps.
Club members and representatives of the AMA joined friends and family at his funeral at Blackley on June 15th 2023.
Matt is survived by his wife, Pamela, four children, and eight grandchildren.
